In 2006 I aligned some intronic sequences obtained by Margarita Beltrán and Kanchon Dasmahapatra from Heliconius erato and melpomene group species, together with Laparus and Neruda. They suggest that Laparus and especially Neruda may have basal sequences at this locus, which was interesting at the time.
However, the power was very low for such low amounts of sequence data, and there was not very strong support for the assertion that Laparus and Neruda are basal to Heliconius. This remained unpublished.
In view of current genomics alignment discussions I thought it could be useful to share these early low-resolution attempts with you all permanently here.
